A Conference in Penang - Episode 2

Penang island, Penang province, Malaysia - 16 November-24 November, 2014 - After conference and seafood were over we continued our holiday. We spent a day at Taman Negara Pulau Pinang, otherwise known as Penang National Park.

What better way to start the morning?

Before we went hiking, we need to equip....

BUM EQUIP. (Only sold to the homeless and destitute)

Tiny fishing village off the coast of the park.

The jungle is full of interesting stuff. Living things. All jungles are like that, y'know.

Jungles, oh jungles. You know 'em. Great places for hiking and the like. Getting bitten by ants. Stuff like that.

Where is that damn sex tree at?

The park contains a meromictic lake. At the time of year we visited it was all dried up. And ugly as shit.

Kerachut beach ("turtle beach" if you're white and stupid) cannot be swam in, due to these highly poisonous jellyfish that can be seen everywhere. The beach is visited for its proximity to the meromictic lake and its turtle sanctuary (pictured below). These jellyfish are part of the turtles' diet.

Teluk Duyung (literally "mermaid bay" in Malay, although has been named Monkey Beach for the many stupid white people that visit it) hides some nasty pollution.

What is it?

Oh. It's a friend.

Actually, Teluk Duyung doesn't hide the polution that well. These are supposed to be some of the best beaches in Penang, too.

Gauntlet - Episode 2: Bangkok

Bangkok city, Thailand - June 26-July 2, 2014 - Big city cats.

Curry and chili paste.

The best thing we did was tour around the canals of Western Bangkok with Pandan Tours. I usually don't do tours or tour guides or any of that, but this was really good, and Tao our guide was great. Check them out at www.thaicanaltour.com

It is pleasant riding around the khlongs.

A temple was ahead, and I had never seen any temple like this before.

Then Tao told me it was this big white building across the way.

Inside lay extravagant riches, hundreds of millions of dollars worth of loot.

Notice the fruit in the upper corners, that ripens (upper middle) every 1000 years into a beautiful woman (lower).

The fruit ripening.

When the fruit is fully ripe it is time for the male angels to eat it.

This is another temple from a different sect of the Sangha; the forest sect.As you can see the interior of this sect seems much less materialistic.

Monks study.

At another temple we were lucky enough to witness these two massive turtles shagging.

Second take! How sacrilegious!

Thai-style noodles.

Pandan farm.

It returns!
